Why did you pick this furniture piece?

It has sentimental value to me and my family

It is a memory of my Ouma and something that will always remain in the family

Tell me a story around this furniture piece? A memory, a thought or something that happened recently.

Every morning before breakfast, my Ouma use to use this mirror to maker her doekie right before serving her family some delicious food. She use to look in the mirror with her beautiful new denches, smile and say “vadag is my dag” and then she use to start her day.

How does this piece of furniture make you feel?

Nostalgic, joyous and happy

Do you think this piece of furniture represents us as Coloureds? Why?

Yes because most colored Muslim Women needs a mirror to ensure that their doekie and makeup looks right early in he mornings before entertaining and looking after their families

How would you describe your interpretation of Colouredness?

A form of living. Something that lives in your heart. It’s joy, happiness, Sunday koeksisters, no front teeth and a whole lot of humour.

What other things strongly represent Colouredness?

Definitely Sunday Koeksisters and having Sunday lunch at your Ouma’s house
