My Mom bought this set back in the 80’s. Still wrapped in plastic and the plastic doesn’t get taken off after a few months. When it does get take off ….it gets decorated with a ” Dooilie ” to make it look extra sexy like mags lol.

Coz me and my brother will be Trampoline Jumping and play ” Aan Aan” on it as soon as my Mom is not present

Do you think this piece of furniture represents us as Coloureds? Why?

Definitely …especially the plastic covering and Dooi-lie decoration.

How would you describe your interpretation of Colouredness?

Coloureds are an interesting mixed culture we need to be understood. Very respectable community..lots of fun growing up adventurerous….and not to be messed with as well.

What other things strongly represent Colouredness?

You get mixed coloureds …Well off coloureds …Not so we’ll off….Stervy and Plat down to earth ones as well. We like our posessions alot…worked hard for it. We are high achievers as well…. When we put our mind to it we achieve it.

What does it mean to be Coloured in South Africa now?

We do feel left out a bit when it comes to governmental issues….but this just means wwe have to get our act together more and survive like we always do.

What is your relationship with your Colouredness?

Love my community and people. I understand the diversity and know not to generalise.
